Hojicha, directly translated from Japanese, means 'roasted tea', it's a type of green tea recognized for its smoky, nutty flavor profile and light-to-dark brown appearance. Both unique qualities are the result of it's distinctive preparation process: matcha tea leaves and twigs are slow-roasted in a porcelain pot over a charcoal flame before being ground into powder. The roasting process gives hojicha its signature aroma and appearance, while reducing its caffeine content, making it a mild alternative to other green teas.

RECIPE
nakameguro's cold whisked hojicha recipe
Sift 3.5g hojicha into the chawan (tea bowl)
add 35g oat milk to the chawan and whisk vigorously until it foams well (approx 45-60 seconds)
add 100g of oatmilk
pour over ice and stir
optional: grate some nutmeg
